Firewise Informational to prep for 5th Annual Chipper Days!
October 3 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
You are invited to a Firewise Meeting 7:00pm, Thursday, October 3, 2019 at the Mirrormont Country Club.
We will have Happy Hour at 6:30PM with wine, tea, cheese and desserts. The Program starts at 7:00PM
Thankfully we had a mild, wet summer this year, but we have had many dry, hot summers that leave our community at risk for wild fires. Matt Axe, Program Coordinator Wildfire and Forest Resiliency, King Conservation District will be our guest speaker. Matt served 10 years in the U.S. Army before returning to school at Green River College where he began pursuing a career in forest management. At Green River College Matt acquired on the ground skills and experience in forestry while completing applied associate degrees in Wildfire, Forestry, and Parks and Recreation Management and a bachelor’s degree in forest management. Having lived with his family and worked in in the forests of rural King County and near Spokane most recently, Matt is very aware of the challenges that rural communities and Washington’s forests face due to climate change and increasing wildfire risks.
We have also invited representatives from Eastside Fire and Rescue and Brian Olson our chipper contractor. We expect a good overview and discussion of the Firewise program, ideas for fire resistant landscaping and experience of neighboring Firewise communities. We will also discuss our upcoming Mirrormont “Chipper Days” in October.
Come join us and chat with your neighbors! We look forward to seeing you there!
